First race of the year coming up!
Haven't really posted much on here yet but racing season is starting to get geared up. We have our first race of the year coming up on the 20th. We are running in the Polar Bear Run in Indianapolis. Last year we ran this race but did the 5k. This year we are stepping it up and going to do the 5-mile run. We will give an update after the race and include some pictures.

Things learned
Here are a few things that we have either learned or observed within the last year that we have started to run "seriously", if that is what you call it. We may go with "recreationally" or possibly "for fun".
* You should always scope out the best places around the race site to have breakfast after the race. Nothing like a full belly after you have ran a race...gotta get those calories back somehow!
* Spandex = Twigs & Berries
* When in St. Louis, do as the other tourists do and yell "Detroit" when taking any photo. For some reason "Detroit" sounds alot cooler than "Indiana" or "Crawfordsville".
* No matter how hot, tired or how much you are craving that drink of cold water at the aid station, always take the shot at mile 6 so you don't upset the volunteers.
* Stairway to 7 does not equal Stairway to Heaven, make sure you tell your quads that after you get to the top and they are screaming.
* Be careful when doing an Aerosmith medly rendition for concert tickets. Once word gets out on how awesome you were you could possibly cause the band to dis-member without using the excuse of rehab.
* Running thru waist deep water, wasps inside your socks and briar patch scratches that leave open wounds are so freaking cool!
* Hills will always be your friend! You can cuss them, stomp on them, and even roll down them and they will always be there.
* Wet shorts at the finish line - it happens and you cannot control it so just sit down in the grass, smile and let it flow.
* Everyone has a case of jet propulsion at times. Sometimes it helps you get ahead and sometimes it knocks down others behind you. Just remember it is all about the exhale......aaaahhhh!
* Some/Most energy bars can tase like card board so just go for the doughnuts after the race
* It's ALWAYS all about the outfit and knee high socks only make the outfit better!
* When an unknown miscreant mutters the phrase "You ladies look beautiful" as you are running past on the wrong side of the tracks, that is only motivation for you to run a whole heck of alot faster!
* Usually it isn't a good fun run unless someone "biffs" it.

The beginning of our adventures - who is in?
Runners get set.....We, Leslie and Katrina, best friends, are starting this blog to share our adventures with as many as we can. Hopefully, this blog will encourage and motivate some to get out there and create their own racing adventures. It all started with an extreme kickboxing class at a local gym. We ran a couple of local 5k's but what really got us hooked was stair running as part of our cardio workout for class. That's when we really started to see results in our workouts and it became addiction at this point. so we registered for our first stair climb race, The Bop to the Top in Indianapolis. It was 9 minutes of pure torture, but in the end we were proud of ourselves and hooked on finding our next race. At this point, we set a a "team" goal for ourselves to do at least one type of race a month. After all, racing to us was all about hanging out, having fun and free race shirts of course. Well when you think about it, are they really free when you have to pay to run? there were a couple times after picking up our bibs and shirts that we entertained the thought of jumping back in the car and saying we finished since we had already received the shirt! By the end of 2009, we "earned" 15 race shirts from various road races, stair climbs and trail runs. We've traveled short and long distances, missed a few turns here and there, and even into new time zones all while having a little fun in each city we visited.
2010 is going to be a blast, we are upping the ante and pushing ourselves even more by beating our times at some of the last years races, winning our age group in the DINO trail run series, running (and maybe the occasional break out dance session) in the Music City half marathon in Nashville, learning how to read a compass for some adventure racing and pulling each other out of the mud at our first Muddy Buddy race. And if you are wondering, we will not be partaking in any mud wrestling....at least not during the race! If you are ready for some crazy, whacked out adventures keep following us to see where they take us next. We will of course post pictures and blog about each race including all the spandex imaginable! I mean with us, the sky's the limit!
If anyone would like to partake in our adventures or know of something crazy and new, let us know. As always, feel free to find out where we are going next!
